Fun t-shirt facts

It's Tuesday and everyone here at YouthMerch Nashville t-shirt printing is busy at work placing t-shirt orders. I just learned today that custom printed shirts actually have a pretty interesting History. Message T-shirts and large font promotional shirts have been a popular part of American culture since the 70’s when Americans were looking for new ways to protest the Vietnam War. Britney Spears played a role in repopularizing this trend and is perhaps the best known celebrity for communicating to the public and playing off of the press via the t-shirt. So celebrity influence and trend setting have actually contributed to the success of many custom printing shirts companies. Up until the 1950’s, wholesale custom t-shirts were still considered underwear, until John Wayne, Marlon Brando, and James Dean shocked Americans by wearing their “underwear” on T.V. In 1955, James Dean helped make the T-shirt a standard item of clothing in Rebel Without a Cause. Advances in Screen printing gave people the opportunity to print on T-shirts in the 1960’s. In the late sixties and seventies, people began to realize that printing on t-shirts could be a lucrative business. Rock and Roll bands and professional athletic teams started to make huge profits selling custom screen printed t-shirts. Crazy!
